Inka Jungle Tour: Adventure Trail!
The Inca Jungle tour is the adventure tour par excellence in Cusco. It is an excursion that lasts 4 days and that combines adventure sports such as trekking, mountain biking, rafting and zip line to reach the archaeological complex of Machupicchu. The Inca Jungle is the most popular tour among young travelers in search of adrenaline. It is an alternative to the conventional Inca road but with the same final destination: Machupicchu. The tour allows you to enjoy a varied fauna, colorful flora, a variety of landscapes and climates such as coffee, coca, corn, fruits, among others. In this tour there are no camps, since the accommodation and food is made in lodging houses. This excursion also allows to support the economy of the towns through which it crosses.
The complete package of the Inca Jungle tour including the Huaynapicchu Mountain should be booked 1 to 2 months in advance unlike other adventure tours such as the Inca Trail (6 months) or the Salkantay trek (2 months).
DAY 1: CUSCO – PISPITAYOC (bicycle and canoeing)
The inka jungle tour starts very early with the hotel pick-up between 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. of all the participants (to fulfill the route and the program) and we leave with direction to the sacred valley of the Incas (Urubamba), passing through Ollantaytambo where we will supply water or another one that we lack for the tour, in this whole route we will be able to appreciate beautiful and picturesque natural and cultural attractions. We will arrive at the starting point Nevado Abra Málaga of 4,350 m.s.n.m. approximately at 11 am, from where we will begin the descent by bicycle (double suspension) towards the jungle, passing through small villages, fruit fields, rivers and streams. We will arrive at the town of Huamanmarca at approximately 1:30 p.m. To then be transported in our private bus (allows the loading and security of our luggage) to the town of Santa María where we will have lunch. After a short break we will start a new adventure; Rafting or canoeing which includes the respective items of protection; helmets, vests, knee pads and life jackets, this section has a difficulty III-IV (medium risk) with exciting rapids and with some turbulence but all supervised by our experienced guides knowledgeable about the geography and local environment (certified in extreme sports), We will also be accompanied by a professional kayak and in the company of a fleet of rafts. After this exciting adventure we will be taken to the town of Santa Rosa from where we will walk about 20 minutes to reach the ecological lodge of Pispitayoc (exclusivity of our agency) where we will spend our first night surrounded by vegetation and beautiful landscapes. Travelers that do not do canoeing can advance the group by moving to the same destination place accompanied by an assistant guide.
DAY 2: PISPITAYOC – SANTA TERESA (walk)
The second day, starts around 6:00 a.m. enjoying a traditional breakfast to then start the walk that travels part of the traditional Inca Trail, this section is a must. Along the way we can witness the diverse flora and fauna of the place, where we can observe many species of birds fluttering and showing their beauty as well as a wide range of orchids and fruit trees. (Remember that this area of Cusco, the jungle edge of the Amazon, has one of the richest areas with biological diversity on the planet). After a repairing lunch in the small village of Kellomayo, we will follow the route crossing by waterfalls, streams, fruit plantations and tubers, until we reach the thermal baths of Santa Teresa (Cocalmayo) which is a resort of medicinal waters and therapeutic After the relaxing bath we will continue with our walk 40 more minutes until the town of Santa Teresa where we will spend our second night, accommodating ourselves in a comfortable family lodging.
This night is used by the majority to enjoy a ‘pisco sour’ in one of the small but cozy Pubs of Santa Teresa, where we will establish bonds of lasting friendship with our group.
DAY 3: SANTA TERESA – MACHUPICCHU PUEBLO (Hike – Zip Line)
This day will be marked by the discovery and the history that our professional guide will describe on the way, as we will cross the routes that the great expeditioners that discovered Machupicchu and other important archaeological remains made. Those who have booked may make the zip line separating the group temporarily and then meet again and continue the journey. After having enjoyed the landscape and a brief rest we will descend to the Hydroelectric, where our lunch awaits us and then continue with our walk enjoying the splendid waterfalls from the glaciers
coca leaf and coffee plantations of local residents, continuing through the train route to Aguas Calientes or Machu Picchu Pueblo and accommodating us in our Tourist Lodging, which has all the necessary services such as private bathroom, hot shower. It is also possible to enjoy the thermal baths of the town for an additional price. In the evening we will meet at a tourist restaurant where we will have the option to order a la carte and plan with the guide the visit of Machu Picchu the next day. There we will spend the last night at the foot of the Great Machupicchu.
DAY 4: MACHUPICCHU (visit of the Inka Citadel)
Approximately 4:00 a.m. we will get ready to go to the Inca citadel of Machupicchu, a climb route through the jungle, thus having the opportunity to see the sunrise, after checking in at the park control 6:20 a.m. We will appreciate the sunrise if luck accompanies us, then we will continue the visit inside Machu Picchu accompanied by our professional guide who will share his knowledge with us for approximately two hours and then we will have free time to go around and take the photographic souvenir shots inside the ciudadela.Los travelers who managed to book on time may climb to Huaynapicchu (young mountain) the peak of the trip from where we can enjoy and see the Inka Citadel in the utmost expression. This tour could take an hour and a half but it is worth the effort since the landscape is indescribable. It is worth mentioning that the climb of the “stairs” is moderately dangerous and not recommended for people suffering from vertigo. In the afternoon we will descend to the town of Aguas Calientes where they will be able to take advantage of the time to get to know the town and make the last purchases until the hour of Return by Train (9:30 pm) from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo, where we will be picked up by tourist bus and transferred to Cusco, where the tour finished.
